The design talk The New Frontiers of Entrepreneurship, organised by INTERNI and INTERNI China, proposed a reflection on the strategic and productive directions Italian design is taking and on how it is perceived by the Asian markets which are moving towards a more contemporary and international look. The younger generations are increasingly attracted to Italian design, its history, its protagonists and, especially, its “originality.” The speakers were Giulia Molteni, Head of Marketing and Communication at Molteni & C; Eleonore Cavalli, Art Director of Visionnaire; Maria Porro, Head of Marketing and Communication at Porro; Anthony Margiasso, Head of Industrial Design at Pininfarina Shanghai; Sammy Ren and Cathy Zhang, founders of Domus Tiandi.

The IDEAT Future Forum, entitled New Paths for New Creators, focused on the new generation of millennials as they tackle the fourth industrial revolution. Innovation for them is driven by Big Data, machine learning, nanotechnologies, machine vision technologies and biotechnologies. In this context, means of creation and expression become increasingly versatile and complex. How does Artificial Intelligence influence the way we design? What are the sweeping changes that technological innovation has brought to the design world?

The Milano Design Film Festival, seconded to Shanghai, organised the Affinity between Milan and Shanghai Talk, at which the two cities, twinned 40 years ago, were discussed and compared. Both centres drove the financial and industrial lives of their countries and were similar in several respects – industriousness, didactic approach and huge vitality. Now they are both keen to grow and adapt to the transformations wrought by modern life, channelling innovation and improvement. Exchanging thoughts and points of view are MDFF founders Antonella Dedini and Silvia Robertazzi; Cristina Tajani, Councillor for Employment Policy, Production, Commerce and Human Resources, City of Milan, with responsibility for Fashion and Design; Shaonong Wei, Dean of the School of Design, East China Normal University in Shanghai and Roberto Pagani, Cultural Attaché to the Italian Consulate in Shanghai.
